Updates in the voices behaviors when crossing borders

Hello everyone,

We are thrilled to share some exciting updates to the behavior of our voices when crossing borders. These changes will be available in our upcoming app update for both beta and production users.

For many years, our community, especially in Europe, has expressed concerns about the voice changing when crossing borders between countries. We have listened to your feedback and have made significant improvements to address this issue.

From now on, when you cross a border, the voice you are currently using will no longer change. This means that you won’t be interrupted by a sudden switch to the default voice, which can sometimes be in a language you don’t understand.

We believe this new behavior will provide a more seamless and enjoyable driving experience, as you won’t have to worry about voice changes in the middle of your journey. However, it’s important to note that we may encounter some challenges with accents and pronunciation for certain Text-to-Speech (TTS) voices. This is because we have not been able to make fixes for all countries, and some languages cannot be read by all voices.

We appreciate your patience and understanding. If you encounter any issues with the voices in your region, please do not hesitate to reach out.

We hope you enjoy this new feature and that it enhances your driving experience.

Best regards,

Nicole, on behalf of the Localization Community team.
