Is there a way to extend pothole reports to 8 days of no likes “or still there” before they expire in Sudbury, ON. Canada.
Moved to Canada sub-forum for better assistance from the local editor community.
This is something that is being discussed. We all agree it should be extended.
Here’s the background:
It’s a national-level setting, so we are looking to find a balance that will work for both urban and rural settings. Our primary concern is that setting it too high may result in illegitimate reports lasting too long and eroding user confidence in the system. It also has the potential to encourage report spammers, but that could also give us a tool to identify and block these users from this activity.
We appreciate your input on the matter, and I’ll report when any changes are enacted.
Agreed, maybe find the middle ground at 3 or 5 days after before the pothole reports expire? From when no one is hitting “still there”
Yup. Consulting with community leaders from another region, they found that 7 days was still short of what they needed, so I suspect we will go with something in the 15-30 day range. In your experience, after what number of repetitions would you give up on reporting the same pothole? An interesting point about reporting fatigue was brought up and I’d like to include that in our balance.
I’d say if people report the same potholes more than twice, they start to get tired of having to report the same ones over and over again. The roadway network is huge in Canada, especially in Sudbury, ON. it takes them awhile to have anything fixed.
Sudbury, ON. has the same length amount of roadway as the city of Toronto being more spread out. We’ve seen an uptick of Waze users in Sudbury, ON. since the introduction of speed cameras in the city that change locations every 4 months.
Thanks. I appreciate your insight!
