Sorry to write this in English, in case our good friend Noam decides to chime in.
With this thread, we’d like to inform you the improvements that are currently undergoing SPECIFIC for Indonesia. The first one is below.
As written in the Wiki, right now, the smallest city that is allowed in WME is Kecamatan, not Kelurahan/Desa. Therefore, we’re currently working with the HQ Geo-Ops team to clean up the city.
In addition, we’re also trying to clean up all the ‘junk’ cities that appear in the map, such as “Yogjakarta,” “Tangerangb”, and all that incorrect/incomplete cities.
It will take some time to clean this mess, since there are 2,000+ cities in Indonesia. So hopefully all Kelurahan/Desa will be merged back to their Kecamatan pretty soon.
If you spot any more of these inconsistencies, just use this thread to reply, along with the Permalinks, as usual, and we’ll try to clean them up as well.
In the future, we’ll post any more improvements as well here.
Correct. Anything lower will be incredibly difficult to manage. NO need to put like “Kecamatan, Kota/Kab” in the City field. Just “Kecamatan.”
Hi kukimonsta,
Whether the editors who understand can make improvements ? or should be request to this thread by sending the permalink ? kindly advice.
For now, since there are no good preferences, let’s just put the street name without the (). It will be confusing, yes. However, in cases where the user is looking for a street that he/she is not familiar with, putting the Kelurahan will not help either. For example, if a user from Jakarta is looking for Cendrawasih in Sleman, if you put Cendrawasih (Kel 1) and Cendrawasih (Kel 2), we’re not sure whether he/she will know anyway.
This is a “open-a-can-of-worms” issue, and there’s no good conclusion yet. So don’t create more confusions/new standards first. Right now there are a lot of pains already with users putting something like “Kec. A, Kabupaten B” in the city, which is hectic.
@danny,
Don’t understand what you mean. Can restate? In Indonesian is fine.
After discussions, for cities, the Champs have decided on the following:
To avoid more headaches, DO NOT add new cities for now. Just use the surrounding areas for references. If you have to create new roads that are incredibly long (i.e.: 30 km+). Just use the No City option.
We’ll work hard with HQ to provide the list of cities that have been recorded and official. However, we will not guarantee its availability soon.
Finally, just use your conscience when creating new cities. If you’re a new editor, post a new thread for discussions if you’re not sure what to name the cities.
I think this should avoid any more confusions, debate and other things that may not result in anything.
New feature in Waze Apps have been deployed: Road Shields.
Unfortunately, as discussed in this thread, since Indonesian Road System is not incredibly clear, the addition of road shields MAY confuse people. We’ll trying to figure out right now how to make it as least confusing as possible without sacrificing the road shields.
The hope is that road shields will increase awareness of Wazers that there is some kind of system in the Indonesian Road System.
If you’re travelling in Pantura, you may have seen them already. They look like hexagon with a red stripe at the top, and a number at the bottom. For example, if you’re travelling in Pantura, which is the National Road 1, you’ll see the number 1 in the road shields.
Once we’ve cleaned up how the naming is done, we’ll put a snapshot on road shields in the forum.
