Emergency Response
The Waze Map Editor Community provided key emergency updates during the Taal Volcano eruption
Mapping out the right services in the right places
When disaster hits, reliable communication helps keep communities safe. After the Taal Volcano eruption, Waze Map Editors provided an interactive way for locals to see road closures, navigate out of evacuation areas, and find shelters and donation centers.
Building community-centered crisis response
Inspired after seeing donation centers on the Waze map, McDonald’s began accepting donations at 99 stores, making it even easier for people to contribute to those in need. Using the app, locals could search for, navigate to, or get more information about any of the 109 total centers.
Add another emergency assistance tool to your toolkit
Submitting evacuation zones now ensures routing and pop up evacuation support later. During a crisis, government partners can communicate updates directly to Waze, and partners who wish to contribute resources can inform users directly on the app.
Impact
Accessing support across evacuation zones.
- 211 shelters and donation centers discoverable in the Waze app
- 99 donation centers created by McDonald’s in collaboration with Waze
- 1,101 local families navigated to a shelter ordonation center using Waze
