The reason is the name of road 82 from road 1 to Dalvík is widely wrongly named. Google maps has recently added the right name to the road but still keeps the wrong name in as well. The right name is Dalvíkurvegur. Current name Ólafsfjarðarvegur refers to the town Ólafsfjörður, 15 minutes further than Dalvík. But if you consider that many years ago there was no road between Dalvík and Ólafsfjörður the name can’t be Ólafsfjarðarvegur. In addition, my grandfather was born and raised in Hjalteyri, close to road 82, and he states that the road was never called anything else than Dalvíkurvegur. The current name is a mistake that somehow stuck to the road.
Ok, the problem is that everywhere in Iceland I have always followed the directions published by Vegagerðin (The Road and Coastal Administration).
This year I’m a little late compared to the October 2023 publication and I have a few hundred segments to check but on none of the segments of the 82 there are changes to the official name. Is this name present on any official national map?
