Hi, I’ve been a regular user for over 5 years. Recently, I realized my editing permissions has been revoked. I’m unable to post reports and have it show up on the app. Emailed Waze support, and was told to come here to check here and/or my inbox. Can anyone advise or assist how I can get in-revoked?
Good Afternoon,
There was several reports at the same location in a neighborhood for a street closure submitted in the app over a course of months. One of the editors in that area lives near there drove to that location and confirmed there was no street closures or reason they should be closed. Since this was repeated over the course of months and no apparent reason as to why those closures were being entered, the ability to enter them was halted. We definitely want to allow proper reports, but when the community brings things like this to our attention, we must protect the integrity of the map.
They were accurate. The closure was for a couple reasons. 1) a main sewer line blew and the road got temporarily closed intermittently. Since there road is where a bus stop and a curve , I reported it so people wouldn’t hit children.
You can still see the dirt mound in one of the yards a few houses down. And 2 ) several residents called the police for people running the 4-way stop sign. They sat here almost daily and would stop the street prior to the bus pickup and would resume normally afterward.
They were definitely accurate. As you can see, I’ve been a member for many years and appreciate the accuracy
Good Afternoon,
If the road is truly closed, meaning not even 1 lane of traffic can go through is accurate for a closure.
Closing the road due to reckless driving, ie people running stop signs, is against standards. If the police are sitting there, you can mark police present or if there is construction you can mark construction or other appropriate event types.
While encouraging safe driving is laudable, using closures to force someone to drive safely is not an appropriate use of the closure system. Remember, not everyone uses Waze or even drives with a GPS system active, so it’s unlikely that these inappropriate closures will even address the reckless driving issue you’re concerned with.
If you will agree to only set closures for truly closed roads, and not to affect driving behavior, we can request the ability to enter closures be restored.

I do agree and thank you. But they were closing both lanes (it’s an unmarked residential road) each time. I thought closure was the most appropriate since neither lane could pass at that time.
How long were these closures active? If it’s just a quick closure for a bus stop or an officer pulling someone over we would not consider that an active closure. As enfcer74 mentioned, this was brought to our attention by an editor local to that area who noticed someone was closing the road when it wasn’t actually closed.
It varied. Sometimes they would block it and open it up next time I looked ,) sometimes it would be for awhile and cars were backing up in other driveways to turn .
I am aware of a road closure vs lane close. I am a former law enforcement officer so I’m familiar with traffic safety.
I was marking it for safety reasons more than anything else as this road is uphill and curved and they weren’t seeing the work truck/ backhoe equipment for the sewer guys or the policeman until they get right up on it.
It sounds like these closures were intermittent and varied in duration. A construction or police hazard notification would be more effective, as it would alert drivers to the potential issue rather than divert them unnecessarily. The goal is to provide a safety notification, and if the closures become more long-term, Waze will detect them and adjust routing accordingly, even on residential streets. However, if the closures are short-lived, drivers who proceed through the area without observing a closure might distrust the information, impacting their perception of Waze’s reliability. Since the intent is safety, alerting drivers to the potential hazard allows them to drive more cautiously in the affected area. Waze will detect traffic slowdowns and even prompt rerouting if you’re in a traffic jam. Temporary closures lasting only a few minutes are best handled through Waze’s routing algorithm, coupled with driver notifications of construction or police hazards.
Thank you for taking the time to explain the algorithm to me.
Hi Sho,
Thanks for getting back to us. We will re-instate your reporting permissions for you. This will take roughly ~48hrs. If there are closures you’d like on the map, you are welcome to post to the forum here and we can add them for you. This is especially helpful for construction closures as we are able to specify down to the minute how long they will last. The app only has a select few options which typically aren’t correct
We do generally submit reporting blocks for overly excessive reports like before, so if it comes up again, it may be better to reach out to us to help with closures. We can also add construction or other hazard reports for you
Feel free to message me or anyone one of us here if you have any questions
Thank you
