Hi Editors, I would like to be able to edit the following segments. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Permalink Reason: Would it be possible if I can divide Spadina (within the segments)? There’s a TTC Streetcar that runs in the middle of the roadway, which makes it right in/right out intersections for some local roads/PLRs.
Unlock to lvl: 3
Got it done, here’s a new permalink for relock. The only JB that needs to be added to have it say “Make a U-turn on Spadina Ave” (instead of saying (“Turn left. Then turn left on Spadina Ave”) is at Harbord.
Another thing I realized is that approximately 2 years ago, there was a reconstructed intersection to include a SB left turn into the University of Toronto Schools (Bloor Site), so I would need this unlocked so I can do adjustments. I’ll have to ask the GTA editors if U-turns should still be allowed here because I believe it shouldn’t, but it was NB before for a reason.
Those Bloor Site segments have been unlocked. U-turns should not be allowed NB. I’m sure many do but without the U-Turn Allowed signage, we restrict them.
I don’t see u-turns being permitted at Spadina / Harbord. There are no signs on SV. Do you have another source indicating otherwise?
Typically at intersections where there’s streetcars/LRT or busways in the middle of the road, it has their own traffic signals along with left turn signals. So U-turns should be allowed as long as it has a dedicated left turn lane/signal, along with busways or LRTs (that doesn’t have vehicles travelling on it) in the middle of the road. Also it is wide enough to make that safe turn. If there were signs that has no U-turns permitted, then definitely we shouldn’t allow it.
This design is just like Hwy 7 in Vaughan/Richmond Hill/Markham, Eglinton/Finch in Toronto, & Hurontario in Mississauga on most intersections.
I disagree on the allowed u-turns with dedicated left turning lanes.
In Kitchener, we have an LRT and u-turns are restricted unless explicitly allowed. Examples are here and here. The former has a dedicated u-turn lane and the latter has signage visible on SV allowing the u-turn. What your describing with your examples is a requirement that has a dedicated left-turn lane AND a rapid transit conveyance. The rapid transit doesn’t really matter. If we removed the rapid transit, we’re left with a dedicated left turn lane so why can’t that configuration be allowed to do a u-turn?
We can have this discussion with the wider group if you would like to make a post in Discord. Happy to chat.
My support week ends tonight.
Please help us keep the forum clean and lean follow-ups
We would greatly appreciate it if you could close this request.
If there was another decision in a Discord thread for the U-turn, I think this could be resolved without a unlock request.
