As of late yesterday, there isn’t any change. By the looks of it, it might take some time before there will be any (although the finished parts did come up very nice!)
Hi guys,
just wanted to let you know that I’m going away for three weeks.
The closures look good for the moment, but I cannot tell if it will stay the same for the whole duration.
What do you think should be best? Should the closures continue until, say, 21/09, just to be on the safe side (even if the road will open and the blocked parts will be different)?
Thanks for the update. I think it’s probably better to continue the closures until September 21 (which is presumably shortly after you get back?) because it’s better that users get sent by a different (but valid) route, rather than having them sent onto a closed road and then having to work out what to do by themselves.
I’ve extended the closure end date until midnight on September 22nd. Can you take a look at the road when you get back to see if anything’s changed?
Second: have you had a chance to check out the road closures in the centre of Athlone? The road closures expire tomorrow (so the roads will automatically open then), but if you haven’t had a chance to see what’s still closed, I can extend them for another couple of days.
I’ve extended the existing closure to run until Monday night anyway, because I probably won’t have a chance to change anything over the weekend, even if you’re able to inspect things tonight.
I’ve added the new closure and extended the end date of the existing one, so they both expire at midnight on 15 October (three weeks from Monday).
One question I noticed:
This road (Lloyd’s Ln): https://www.waze.com/editor?env=row&lon=-7.93900&lat=53.42342&zoom=7&segments=119235868 is marked two way, but no entrance at the south end (matches the street signs in SV), but also no exit at the north end (left and right turns disabled), but instead has a U-turn enabled at that end. Are you sure it shouldn’t be possible to exit from it at the north end? Should it maybe be one way southbound?
Thanks for that. Before the roadworks commenced, Lloyd’s Ln was a one-way southbound street, but as the roadworks now have totally blocked its north end, it was changed to a dead-end, local access only, (rather narrow!) street. I marked it as two-way and enabled the U-turn earlier today but forgot to check the turns to it (whoops…). So, now I enabled the right turn from the tiny two-way part of Strand St. I’m a tad busy these days, but I’ll try to walk around once again on Sunday/Monday, as there were many small changes around and I want to make sure I didn’t miss anything else.
Thanks again for keeping an eye on it. So many small details around this…

Aha. It’s great having somebody local who knows about changes like this. If I didn’t know about the roadworks I’d be scratching my head and if I saw disabled turn restrictions for no obvious reason. I might even end up enabling them according to what SV says until and unless somebody raised a UR (and only a small proportion of URs that aren’t obvious get a response if we ask a question on them). I only pass through Athlone about once a year, and its usually on the N6 bypass so I don’t have much local knowledge of my own.
